Update on Will and babies

Will had a dr appointment this week. So far things are status quo. He is still in his boot and healing. They are waiting until he is fully healed to make the final decision on surgery but it is seeming pretty likely. So we've still got a long road ahead, but he is getting around much better so that is good.

As for the babies, I will just say I am loving this age. They are so much fun! Ben is sitting and playing with toys and rolling all over the place. He also has the most bashful sweet smile I have ever seen! He definitely warms my heart. Penny is so close to crawling. She rocks on all for and can army crawl all over the place. It is just a matter of time before she realizes what she can do. She smiles and laughs from the top of her head to the tips of her toes! She is on the go and busy busy busy. Both of them love the cat a bit too much, but Lennon is surprisingly patient. And sometimes I almost think Lennon likes the abuse. For those of you who don't know Lennon, she craves attention more than any cat I have seen. So even fur pulling is attention, I swear I've even heard her purring with them.

So here are some random but cute pictures.

Kiss me, I actually am Irish!

My whole life I have loved St Patrick's Day.  I always chalked it up to my upbringing in a Catholic School and my love of a good time!  I knew I was German and English, but I always secretly wished I was Irish.  I could always see myself with red curly hair dancin a jig.

Well this year Will and I have been doing a little genealogy research.  It turns out I actually am Irish!  It just so happens that my great great grandfather came over from Ireland in the 1800's.  We have learned all kinds of cool stuff through doing this research. Will always new that his mother's side of the family has a lot of Irish.  Now we are going to have a special day to celebrate with our kids.  Aunt Emma was here to help us celebrate Penny and Ben first St Patrick's Day.  The babies certainly seemed to enjoy it!

Family Visits and Baby Babbles

Well Will is on the mend and spring is in the air!  I am loving this weather, although I wish we could get out in it more as a family.  Will is still obviously not allowed to put any weight on his foot so long delightful walks are out of the question, but Ben and Penny just love being outside.

We have also had many visitors lately, which I great appreciate.  I need all the help I can get.  So they usually get put to work, even if it is just playing with babies so I can get some work done around the house.  My mom came up to help with things over the weekend.  This week Jane and Noah came up for a few days and now Emma is here helping.  I love it, and the babies like spending time with family.

Penny got two new teeth in this week. She got the outer incisors.  She is going to look like a little vampire.  My mom said I got those teeth in first as well.  Also today for the first time Ben and Penny had a little conversation.  They just kind of shouted back and forth for a few minutes.  It was really cute, I can't wait to see what's to come with them.

Will is beginning to feel better.  This week he went back to teaching, but he still isn't quite up to research yet.  We will see a Dr next week for him.

Update on the current predicament

So life has definitely been hectic this past week. After we saw more doctors we found out Will's ankle is is actually broken. Part of his tibia chipped off and he has bone shards in his joint. Most likely he will need surgery to get those taken out but they want to wait until he is healed and all the swelling is done and reassess that. He tried to go back to work because apparently grad school makes you crazy!! After just getting to his lab he thought maybe that wasn't such a good idea just yet. Luckily his professor is being understanding and giving his a writing assignment to work on till he is up to standing again. I always wanted to spend more time with him, but I didn't mean like this! The first day I was it was all four of us at home alone it was rough, but things are getting better today. Ya know I never realized all the things he did until I had to do it all myself. He's a wonderful husband and I am lucky.

On a lighter note spring seems to be on its way. This makes my happy. I took the babies out walk. Not very long though. The wind was intense. But they loved getting out of the house in there new stroller.

Thank you all so much for your well wishes and prayers. Will is healing and hopefully it will be a speedy recovery. My sanity is still intact but I can't promise that forever.

All banged up!

So this past week the babies and I both got pretty bad colds. Let me tell you, taking care of two sick babies while you are sick yourself is not fun. I thought that was going to be the hardest part of the week. Snotty noses everywhere and crabby babies.

Then Thursday night around 10 I received a call from Will. I was expecting his to say "I finished up, I'm on my way home". Instead I got "I'm ok, but I was hit by a car and I am in an ambulance being taken to the emergency room". So many thoughts rushed through my head. At least he was ok. Now came the logistics. How am I going to get to the hospital with two sleeping babies at home and the van on campus. I don't know many people here in champaign and the people I do know all have kids. I really didn't feel like getting the babies up. My parents are an hour and a half away and they both had the day off on Friday because they were going out of town so they drove over. I was finally on my way to the hospital. By the time I get there X-rays are done and we know it is a broken fibula and a severely sprained ankle. I am so thankful because things could have been so much work. We get home and get him situated in our comfy new reclining chair, which by a strike of luck arrived that afternoon. At least he can have a comfy place to heal because when he left the house that morning we were basically living on a camping mat due to a furniture store mix up.

Now that everything seems to be ok I begin to realize how much work a husband with a broken leg and two 8 month old babies is going to be. He is such a hands on dad. I usually find myself in a count down until he can be home and help. Now he can't really do much except give them bottles and there is a lot more to taking care of twins than that. Also we don't know how he will get to work because he can't drive nor can he hobble all the way to the bus stop. Things should be interesting around here!!

We go to the ortho specialist tomorrow so he can get a more permanent cast and see how long he will have it. My wonderful parents stayed the weekend and took the babies home for the night so we can go to the appt with out them. So that is a big help. tomorrow we will find out just how overwhelming life is going to be for the next month or so. I thought twins were hard, the running joke is I now have triplets. All I can say when I start to get nervous about how much work is thank god the accident wasn't worse. Everyone is ok, frazzled but ok.
